Brave Birthday Party

My daughter loves Brave.  Well, she loves playing Brave and fantasizing about Brave, but didn’t so much love the movie itself.  It’s sort of a weird thing . . But she wanted a Brave birthday and so that is what she got.

We were just having family over for dinner and cake and ice cream, but I still think you can have a little celebration with some fun things and a theme.  (And still not spend a ton of money!)

This is what I came up with.

Food.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, fruit kebabs, chocolate dipped strawberries, strawberry salad with poppy seed dressing, cupcakes, and ice cream.

With some food labels it turned into, Haggis Burgers, Fruit Arrows, Chocolate StrawBEARries, Queen Elinor’s Strawberry Salad, Witch’s Brew.  Threw in some Empire Cakes (the cakes that the witch gives Merida to posion her mom, according to the internet that’s what they’re called) and some Chocolate Teddy Grahams and it made it a Brave themed dinner.

BRAVE Brithday Lables

I had plans for making some Mac n’ Cheese, but ran out of time.

I made cupcakes from a box and delicious homemade chocolate frosting.  Found some brave-ish colored sprinkles and cupcake liners, and made some arrows with toothpicks and washi tape.

I also made some water bottle labels, A) because they are cute and a cheap way to fancy up, and B) because everyone always gets their bottles confused and we end up going through a million of them.

Used this free font, Celtic Hand to type in names.  Print.  Cut.  Tape.

I also used a few of our favorite quotes from the movie and made some decorations for the table and food bar.

BRAVE Brithday Weapons

(These printables were probably my favorite thing about the party!)

To finish things off I made a chalkboard sign using one of those giant already made chalkboards from Home Depot.  And sewed together a banner using paint chips.  (Free!)

{Baby Boy Gift} Mustache Tie Onesie and Pee Pee Teepees

Another baby boy gift.  This one I made for a cousin who is giving it to a new nephew.

I LOVE this Riley Blake mustache fabric.

I bought it without really having a project in mind, but figured I’d use it eventually.  I just had to have it then and there!

Now I’m sad I have to mail them away!

He Is Risen {Free Easter Printable}

I made this print for my mantle.  I made it huge – 11x14 – and completely love it.

IMG_9195

I put it in a bright frame that I spray painted, along with some spray painted branches that I hung some easter eggs on.  It looks like Pinterest threw up above our fire place, but it makes me smile every time I see it!

I also make the print into a 5x7 and put them in lovely blue frames and gave them to the ladies that I visit teach!

You can download the different sizes, I had originally planned on doing grey, so there is a grey 11x14 too!

Baby Boy Gift {Tie Onesie and Pee Pee Teepees}

I have no problem thinking of cute frilly handmade gifts for baby girls.  But with boys I am always stumped.  So this is pretty much my go to baby boy gift.

The Pee Pee Teepees and tie onesies are super simple.  I can whip them both up and have it wrapped in a nap time.  I usually throw in a pair of Target pants, you can use usually get them for $4 or $5, which makes this not only a simple handmade gift but also cheap!

Now we’re cookin’ with peanut oil!  (If you get that, you get a million awesome points, it’s our new favorite show!)

Hope you are enjoying SPRING!  We had a few days of sunshine and “warm” weather, then today it rained, which then turned into snow.  Boo.

Not to mention I left our car door WIDE open all night last night.  Oh, and it wasn’t parked in the garage because my new craft table is sitting in it’s spot.  So the car got a little wet – inside – no big right!?

{PS} I made the Pee Pee Tepee tag and would be happy to share, let me know if you would like a copy!

Winter ONEderland Party {Invitations}

A little bit of what’s been goin’ on ‘round here.  We have been getting ready for this happy girly’s 1st birthday party!  Once upon a time, after my now four year-olds’, third birthday party, I told my husband that from now on we were only going to have big parties on even birthdays.  Luckily he forgot, or at least he has mentioned it since I have started planning this party, he’s good to let me do what I want, and not point out my hypocriticalness.

I don’t know who’s more excited for the party, me or the big sister!  Decorations are already up, trying to be prepared and all like that!

Peppermint Playdough

IMG_9482
Hello friends!  How was you Christmas?  I hope it was wonderful!  I know ours was – wet, but wonderful.
We spent it in Oregon visiting my husbands family.  It was so fun for our kids to be apart of their Christmas traditions.  Green eggs and ham for Christmas breakfast anyone?!  And who doesn’t love spending Christmas with Nana and Papa?!
As always I am sad to see Christmas go.  So depressed in fact that Christmas has been half taken down at our house for a few days now.
How was your first week of 2013?  (Well almost first week!)  Ours has been quite exciting!
So far in 2013 we . . .

Went sledding!

Made GIANT snowflakes.  We had sent some to Connecticut a few weeks ago, but just had to make some for ourselves too!

Jaylie and I made cake pops with the Bakerella cake pop making toy that we got in the mail because I won a give away over at Munchkin Munchies!  Thanks Sue!  We loved it, and had so much fun!  I am in love with the little pink and blue bowls that it came with, and may have used one to make eggs for dinner tonight, just because it is so cute!

I also finished reading The Help, again, which I absolutely adore.  Fished a sock out of the toilet, which no one will admit to putting there (which leads us to believe it is the only person who can’t talks . . . ).

And started planning this cutie’s FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY!

I also tried my hardest to update our family blog, I am usually pretty good and was only a few weeks behind!  While I was looking through our pictures, I found these and was reminded of these cute little presents I sent to preschool with our oldest.

And yes, I said reminded, because I had totally forgotten about them.
I think my brain did it on purpose so that next time I think it is a good idea to make play dough for 17 kiddos and wait till the morning OF, and then run out of cream of tarter and have to frantically run to the only grocery store in our little podunk Idaho town, only to find it not open for another hour . . . and then have red hands for a week after because of all the red food dye. . . Whew I want to cry just thinking about it.
But they were cute, and smelled delightful, and the kiddos were so excited (the parents maybe not so much . . . ).  So it was all worth it right?
I used this recipe from The Idea Room, but added red gel paste food coloring to it.
I found that the little deli containers that they give you salads and stuff in where the cheapest route for packaging.  I got mine at Albertson’s for 10 cents a piece.
Stuck it in a cellophane bag, added some tulle, and tags, and viola!
