I’m Melting!

image

I made these snowmen sugar cookies for our Relief Society Christmas party in December, stay with me here I realize it’s March. But I was reminded of them today as I walked around outside. All of our snow is melting {FINALLY}! Singing “Hallelujahs” as I type.

You Melt My Heart_Page_1

I thought that they would be a perfect treat with a tag that says, “You melt my heart!”. (Note to self, learn how to upload pdf’s and such for others to print and use. Help?!) I hope I get to make another batch soon, and better get on it quick since it’s practically Spring, at least that’s what I keep telling myself. They were super simple. I was quite impressed with how great these instructions were, and how easy it was to frost a cookie this way.

Some changes I made:

I didn’t use fondant for the nose, instead I used slightly nuked orange Starbursts. Worked out great because those are my least favorite flavor, and I enjoyed eating the leftovers!

Also, I didn’t use fondant for the buttons, instead I used Mini M&M’s. A tube that you pick up by the check stand was perfect. I thought about using Starbursts here too, but thought the M&M’s would be easiest.

I was stalking around looking for ideas to steal and came across another version from a blog I enjoy, Cookies and Cups.

A Great Accessory For Any Occasion

My husband and I teach Primary at Church. We actually teach just the three to six year-olds. I wanted to make a fun Valentine’s treat for our Primary kiddos and for my daughters little friends. I saw this and thought it would be a good kid treat.

I am not a huge fan of those Sweethearts, so I used taffy, sweethearts, and Butterfinger hearts.

At first I cut my saran wrap in half widthwise, but found that it didn’t hold the candy as well as I wanted, so I ended up cutting off about a 1/4 instead. I thought using the whole width was too saran wrappy.

Easiest way I found was to lay out my saran wrap flat, and then lay out the candy, then tie it off. When I tried to do it a section at a time things got a little hairy.

These are obviously not just limited to Valentine’s Day. I’m sure you’ve seen them at graduations, you could also use any holiday candy to make it fit the upcoming holiday.

Oh, and the kids loved them! I gave one to a little Korean girl I tutor and she still has it!

I Am A Cheapskate

I hardly ever go to a craft store without a coupon. Most of the time I really go just so I can feel good about using my coupon. Today I stopped by Michael's to pick up a few things for a project I am hoping to get to this weekend, I better since it has to do with the Olympics! Back to my point. I have been wondering for awhile now if my Michael’s accepted Robert’s coupons even though we don’t have a Robert’s close by {tear}. I saw a sign that said they did along with other competitors in the area! Horray! I commented to the cashier how excited I was about my new revelation. She told me me that not only will they accept other’s coupons, but they will accept a Michael’s coupon AND a competitor coupon as long as they are for different amounts! Double horray!

Some places I go to get coupons:

Lots of links to Michael's coupons

You can sign up to get Michael’s emails, which really have quite a few good deals, and you also automatically receive a 40% off coupon.

You can also sign up to get Robert’s coupons, sometimes as much as 50% off!

So I am interested to know where you find your good crafting deals because I am all over cheap!

To Die For Hot Fudge

Fact: One of my favorite desserts of all time is brownies and ice cream.

The other night we were supposed to take the dessert to go with dinner at a friend’s house. Problem, we had been there done that with brownies and ice cream several times, and we wanted to bring something awesome so they would invite us back. Solution, when in a pickle I always turn to my trusted Blogging Idols.

I found this A-MAZ-ING Hot Fudge recipe (and it gets bonus points for being simple). It was a hit! We will be doomed to bringing dessert now forever.

image To Die For Hot Fudge Sauce

1 can of Condensed Milk (like Eagle Brand) - Do not use evaporated Milk

1 stick of Butter

1 tsp. Vanilla

1 cup of Milk or Semi chocolate Chips.

Mix all ingredients together in saucepan over low heat, until melted and well blended.

Store remaining Hot Fudge in jar with lid, or well sealed container.

You can keep this in your fridge for many days. Simply warm when ready to use.

Seriously people. If you are not convinced head over to the mastermind behind it all. She just posted a new recipe today where she uses this same sauce on Hot Fudge Oreo Cupcakes. Maybe bringing dessert from now on won’t be so bad.
