Just For Fun

Today because it’s Friday.

Because I chased after the Garbage Truck trying to explain that we’d forgotten to put out our garbage can!  We’re new at this whole living in a real house thing.

Because The Two Year-Old, oh that loveable little bug!  She’s learned to wiped her mouth on her shirt, and she’s wearing pumpkin socks and ladybug pjs.

I thought I’d share some things that have made me chuckle today.

The Pioneer Woman is featuring funny photos over at Pioneer Woman Photography.  These were two of my favorites!  I had no idea cats could make such facial expressions.

Brian Regan ALWAYS makes me laugh!

So true!

And last but not least, these aDORable candy bracelets!  I am making one for The Two Year-Old and one for me!  {Found @ Eighteen25}

Sidewalk Chalk Paint

We have been trying to enjoy every last bit of warm weather we have left.  We needed something to do outside.  So we whipped up some Sidewalk Chalk Paint.  And painted to our hearts content.  It was super easy and super fun!

Sidewalk Chalk Paint “Recipe”

Mix together:

1/4 cup of cold water
1/4 cup of cornstarch
**small** amount of food coloring to give it a little bit of color. (Do not add a lot of food coloring...after washing the green paint off the sidewalk, I noticed it left a very light stain behind...so use food coloring at your own risk)!

We chose to use real paint brushes, I picked up a three pack from the Dollar Tree.  I thought if we used foam brushes they would fall apart when we painted with them on the sidewalk.

Dollar Store Cupcake Stands

IMG_7403

I originally stumbled across this idea here at According to Kelly.  I knew that I just HAD to make some to use at my daughter’s birthday party.  I LOVED them SO MUCH that I left them out for a week after the party!  I LOVED them even more because they were CHEAP and EASY.  Two things that are musts in my craft book.

{Supplies}

candle stick holders
plates
spray paint
super glue

I trucked my butt to the Dollar Tree to pick up supplies.  I got four clear glass candle holders and one painted ceramic squarish candle holder.  Instead of spray painting silver trays, I got already brightly colored plastic plates (seven plates, three green, three pink, and one polka a dot pink).  I also bought the stickiest strongest glue,  Super Glue Fix-All Adhesive.  Don’t worry, just because it dollar store glue, it is totally awesome.

I then headed to Wally World and got some cheap white spray paint.

{Steps}

I proceeded to go spray paint crazy (Confession:  I’ve never spray painted anything before.  And now I’m hooked).  I spray painted my candle stick holders perfectly matching white.

Wait not so very patiently for the paint to dry . . . .

Supplies painted and ready to be assembled.

Began experimenting with different stacking combinations.

   IMG_7374
I liked this one with three plates and four candle stick holders (two put together on the base), but was worried about stability.

I also liked this one with one plate and two candle stick holders.

This one provided stability and lots of room for food.

Ultimately I choose to do two two-level trays using the four glass candle stick holders and one one-level tray using the pink and white plate and the squarish base.

Time to glue pieces together.

Glue, let dry, use heaviest objects you can find in your pantry to help dry.  Repeat if doing several levels of trays.  On the second level, I turned the candle stick holder upside-down, to provide more room for food on the green plate.

TA DAAAAA!!!  The finished products!  I love them!  Everyone at the party wanted to know where I bought them and were shocked to find that I made them myself!!  And everything, but the spray paint (which was a buck at Wal-Mart), came from the Dollar Store!  The two taller pink/green stands were $4.00 a piece and the pink polka dot with the square base was $2.00!

Blue Blueberry Finger Paint

Have you ever tried yogurt finger paint.  Sort of like when you use pudding, but it’s so much easier because you don’t have to make the pudding first.  We tried it today, and it was a complete success!

IMG_7451

Supplies needed:

Yogurt (I ate our last vanilla for breakfast, but blueberry worked ok since I planned on making it blue anyway)

Food coloring

Paper

IMG_7447

Mix food coloring with yogurt, just a few drops will do.  Too much will dye things blue that you don’t want to permanently be blue.

Use your fingers to paint away!  Makes a fun tasty treat after you’ve finished your masterpiece!

Read With Me Wednesday: Does A Kangaroo Have A Mother Too?

image Does A Kangaroo Have A Mother Too?

by Eric Carle

We picked up this book from the library the other day,  love Eric Carle, but had never read this book.  My two year-old loved this book.  She had so much fun”reading” along with us.  Great lively pictures and wonderful writing, plus a shares a wonderful message.

Yes! A kangaroo has a mother. Just like me and you." Tremendously popular author/illustrator Eric Carle needs no introduction. Readers wait eagerly for every new picture book--and nobody will be disappointed with this one. In this Very Simple story, an unseen child asks variations on the same question: "Does a lion/monkey/dolphin have a mother, too?" The response is always the same: a big colorful "YES!" with the soothing reassurance that, "like me and you," everyone has a mother. Repetition is the name of the game, here, because nothing comforts like reiteration.

Those on the verge of reading will enjoy the question and answer format, which is clearly designed to be read aloud. A list of the names of animal babies, parents, and groups is included--did you know that a group of bears is called a "sloth"? Or that a group of foxes is a "skulk"? Carle's trademark collages are as colorful and luminous as those found in any of his other well-loved modern classics (including The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Quiet Cricket); as usual, the illustrations are so good they're worthy of framing.  (Amazon.com Review)

TOTALLY Obsessed With Bakerella

I am totally obsessed with Bakerella, I love her and everything she does!

Her book is coming out this month, I’m so excited for a whole book full of Bakerella projects.  (It’s on my Christmas list, but I don’t know if I can wait that long . . .)

image

To promote her book, she’s made a little video.  I know she already posted about it on her site, but just incase you don’t live on planet earth her is Angie aka Bakerella (weird, huh) showing you how to make cakepops, this little video has change my life.  I never “tap” or even thought about going straight in and straight out!

Oh, and I tried to make the ice cream cone cakepops for our ice cream themed birthday party, I think they turned out pretty cute, so I’ll be sharing them soon!

Fall Trees

I have been wanting to add to my Fall decorations.  Two ideas that I have found and love are:

A handprint tree by Embellishing Life

image

And

A Button Tree by Inspiring Creations

image

I think I am going to combine them into one, like us my little one’s handprint, but then us buttons for leaves . . . My wheels are still turning . . .

What is your favorite fall decoration (that you’ve made/have, or just seen and want to have/make)?
